Blue Monday

Do you ever feel down and feel guilty for it? I had a wonderful weekend with my DH & the boy. Nothing special, just hanging out. Came time to get up this morning and I just hated the thought of coming to work. I love my co-workers and like my job, I just didn't want to leave my house. Wish a money tree would fall in my back yard so I could stay home and not have to worry.

Ok, pity party over! How was your weekend? Sounds like my family to the north got some weather from Fay. Glad everyone is ok and that they just have a little damage to their home. I know it will be a pain in the rear but at least they are all safe.

***SIDE NOTE****I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy yourself.

OK, going to go "kill trees" now and get ready for our staff meeting. Joy!

15 seconds of fame

Last night at about 11:20 I had my 15 seconds of fame. The little CVS segment aired and I didn't make to big a fool of myself. I didn't announce the airing because I was really afraid I was going to look totally stupid. My friend Carol should be happy with all the air play her Shirt got! LOL.

They should post the segment on the stations website in a couple days. I'll link to it when they do.

The more important thing was my trip today to the local food bank to deliver my "extras". Thanks to my CVS shopping and some Winn Dixie help, I was able to donate: 20 loaves of bread, 25 bottles of Pert, various razors, pain releivers, toothpaste, tooth brushes & 5 Diabetic monitors. I promised them I'd be back in a month with another car load. While I was at WD geting the bread people kept looking at me funny and asking why I had so much bread. I told them about the Food Bank so hopefully they will think about helping out too.

Spending a nice weekend with my two boys, reading some email, watching the Little League World Series, NASCAR & maybe some football.

Good times!

After Glow

No, not that...you dirty minded folks.

I'm talking about my birthday.

Let's review the day....

My DH & DS were to asleep when I left the house to remember to say anything. My DH called mid morning and I told him it was OK because I know they aren't morning people. My DS called when he got home from school and was "reminded" about what they had forgotten to say before I left the house. My DD called me first thing and my niece Jenna called bright and early. My sister posted a greeting on her Blog with a HORRIBLE picture of me. Arg..maybe I really am 50! Through out the day I got emails and on line greetings from a lot of people. THANKS!!!!

The cake pictured yesterday was from the "Surprise Party" my co-workers threw for me yesterday afternoon. I was begining to think they were going to ignore me..well except for the verbal "Birthday wishes". No decorations at my desk when I came in. No decorations when I got back from lunch. HMMMMM. Finally, mid afternoon my boss "Called a meeting" and the conference room was decorated with Over the Hill stuff, what stuff cost 50 years ago, Music popular in 1958...Pizza and the BIG ole cake (plus a Boston Cream Pie for me to take home!!) YUM. They gave me a nice card With "stuffings" as my DH calls it...plus a 50 cent piece.

THANK YOU to my BFF Carol and the rest of the gang at work that "listened to me" when I said I wanted to be spoiled on my big day. Yes, I'm worse than a kid. I WANT to be fussed over...you all did a GREAT JOB.

My fabulous Step-Son called me while I was on the way home. I got a cute handmade card from the Boy with a "free car wash coupon" inside. Talked to my MIL before we went out and then my DH and I went out to dinner after dropping the boy off at Karate. We had a yummy dinner and at the end the waiters all sang to me in Italian..or at least they said it was Happy Birthday in italian????

I have left over cake and dinner for tonight so the celebration continues.

Thanks to everyone that sent birthday greetings. They meant alot.

It's Official

I'm 50.

WTH??

How did that happen?

I'm actually 17 with 33 years of experience.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

A friend of mine's 5 year old daughter told me yesterday that I had "White Hair" like her mom.

I immediately made a call to my hairdresser and she worked me in last night. Hair cut, color & waxed off all the eyebrow caterpillars and mouth fuzz. Made me feel better.

Thanks Nia for the "wakeup call".

How many people are in YOUR office today?

Late yesterday they announced that some people could stay home today thanks to the "Hurricane" that is headed our way.

Unfortunately, I was not one of those people. Well actually, I was given the choice to stay home and take a vacation day or come to work. I didn't want to give up a vacation day so here I sit.

Hey, I didn't say I was going to WORK. I'm here, that's all they required. There are approximately 10-15 people out of 90 in the office. Nice and quiet. I may leave later today before the "Big rain" starts.

Hope everyone is safe and dry.

Don't forget...............BIG DAY tomorrow.

You could take advantage of your day off to go shopping for my Birthday gift.

Seriously.

I'm not kidding.

Have you discovered REDBOX yet?

If you live near a Super Walmart you may have seen the Red Kiosk at the front entrance. They are boxes that dispense movies for $1 per night. They have new releases and get new ones each Tuesday. When you sign up you will start receiving codes for free movies on Monday (and for the month of August-on Wed). I'll attach a code for today and you can check it out. Let me know what movie you rent & what you thought of it.

Today only you can get a free DVD rental at your local Redbox. Simply use code: 65QM89. This can be used once per debit/credit card, so you can rent more than one for free by using different cards!

Enjoy!

School or storms?

School is supposed to start tomorrow. With Hurricane Fay on her way we'll see how long it lasts. I know DS wouldn't mind a few days off. I personally wouldn't mind spending some time "hunkered down" with my DH & DS. As long as it's just wind and rain, I'm fine.

Had a super quiet, nice weekend with my DH. Made a run to Walgreens and Publix. Saved a good amount of $$. I'll post more about that later.

Short post as we're getting ready to head to sleep. Hope you had a good weekend. Anything exciting?

Using the "R" word for humor

My soap box today is regarding a new movie coming out soon. See below:

(This is from the website of the Special Olympics)

Dear Friend,

Normally our "Breaking News" is used to inform you of wonderful developments in our organization. But today is different.

This week, "Tropic Thunder," a DreamWorks production starring Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and several other Hollywood actors, will open in movie theaters nationwide.

"Tropic Thunder" has been marketed as a satire about Hollywood actors and the movie industry in general. It is intended to be an adult comedy - with crass jokes and scenes to make moviegoers laugh.

We here at Special Olympics are not laughing.

In "Tropic Thunder," there is a movie-within-the movie called "Simple Jack...Once upon a time there was a retard" where Ben Stiller plays a simple man with intellectual disability. Both "Tropic Thunder" and "Simple Jack" contain extremely offensive material promoting the idea that a "retard" is funny. This theme runs throughout the film and occurs on numerous occasions.

While we are offended that the movie contains this hurtful material, we also see the release of "Tropic Thunder" as a rare opportunity to address the much needed abuse of the "R-word" in society. Special Olympics has decided to lead an effort to publicly address this language and the negative attitudes and behaviors associated with the use of the pejorative "retard."

The R-word is dehumanizing and demeaning to the 200 million people around the world who have intellectual disabilities. Hollywood and "Tropic Thunder" use and abuse the R-word, encouraging behavior that continues to demean a portion of our population who already face many challenges.

We are therefore encouraging a national boycott of "Tropic Thunder" and asking people to be fans of dignity by not seeing this film.

If we can hurt the ticket sales, we will have made a statement to Hollywood that we will not stand for this brand of malicious content.

For full details on this issue, daily updates on the boycott efforts, and 12 things you can do to support this boycott and bring an end to the use of the "R-word," visit our website now!

Thank you for being a fan of Special Olympics and human dignity,

Monty Castevens
President/CEO
Special Olympics Florida

ACT NOW!
Pledge to not use the "R word"

Go to our website now for more info and daily updates

Watch the "R-word" video on-line

****I know that PW uses that term when she talks about her brother. That is her brother and she is speaking only about him. If that is a "term of endearment" within her family & Mike is fine with it, I can't falt her for using it. I don't think she means it as a "bad word" about persons with a disability.

I'm sharing this information for you to read and make your own choice.

Stepping down now.

Please take a moment to read this

I'm going to take a moment to step away from saving money, coupon clipping and offering magazines at a great PRICE (I'm still taking orders so EMAIL me ASAP if you are interested) to request you read and take action.....

Subject: : MASTECTOMY.. .......PLEASE READ AND RESPOND

From a nurse:

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast.

I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.

So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You' they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue.

If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards.

Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure.

Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .. Please take the time and do it really quick!

Please send this to everyone in your address book.

If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times.

There is a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy.

It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the Web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number <http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/signpetition.php>

This takes about 2 seconds.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS.

I've already signed up and left my thoughts in the comment section. Please do the same. I have a SIL and several friends that have been effected and I do not want any woman to go through a "drive thru" surgery.

All You magazine

Several of the savings sites I frequent have mentioned the magazine "All You" that they purchase from Walmart. It is supposed to be full of coupons and offers for free products. I finally bought several copies of this months issues for $1.77 and was very pleased with the coupons inside.

I was even more pleased when I checked my Fall catalog for Southern Living at Home and discovered it was a new offering and for only $19.95 for 24 issues.

That is only .83 per issues!!! WOW. What a savings.

If you are interested in joining in on the savings email me ASAP. I'm going to place an order Monday night for the first batch of subscriptions.

Scrapyard Crop here we come

Ready or not! As usual, I have not begun packing for this weekend. I have a tote full of stuff from the last crop so I figure I'm sort of packed...I just have to throw a ton more stuff into another tote, grab some clothes and I'm set. What I don't have, my sister or one of the other 38 women will certainly have with them. Right?

Thought I'd share a DUH moment I had when reading a "savings" blog..

Bubble Bath.
Soap is soap, right? So I buy the largest bubble bath I can find at the dollar store and use that to refill my liquid soap dispensers. For $1 I can usually get a 40 oz bottle. (http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/)

What do you think about that? Has anyone tried it? I confess to putting the little soap slivers in my hand soap dispensers. It doesn't work great. I may have to try the Bubble Bath idea.

I'm adding a couple more blogs to my "Savings" side bar. Hope they are helpful.

More new sites added

I added a few more sites to my list of "Money saving" blogs. I've become addicted to the coupons/CVS/Walgreens deals. You know it's bad when you are afraid to bring the bags into the house and your car is FULL! I didn't spend much on all the stuff but it looks like a TON and we have no place to put all of it. LOL. I need to pick up some boxes to store it all in so I can get rid of the bags that are piled up in my closet....not counting the stuff I just mentioned that is hiding in my car. At least I have about $40-50 in ECB, not to mention enough "staples" to last awhile. Don't laugh...remember the Toilet Paper story?

I MUST update you all soon...I've just been to busy and now am getting ready for the famous Scrapyard Crop. 2 days of cropping and silly girl stuff. Can't wait. I finally told DH that I'm going. Didn't want him missing me before he really had to.
